In a July 1 release, Grand Canyon National Park said its law enforcement rangers are seeking help to identify a man in his 60s or 70s who visited the Desert View Watchtower on June 17 and damaged a Hopi headpiece while attempting to take a photo. He was standing on historic furniture when it buckled, causing him to strike the headpiece and break it in two places.
The man was accompanied by a woman believed to be his daughter. Staff assisted him with first aid, but the pair left before law enforcement could arrive or collect their information.
Park officials are asking for the public’s help: “Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, recognizes the individuals described, or has information that could help identify them is asked to contact Grand Canyon National Park law enforcement. The NPS asks that anyone with information contact investigators directly and not post names or personal information in public comments or on social media platforms.”
